~island time!~

ta-da!
Here is the before pic. River rock and logs and square granite tiles. and after!

Much bigger, slab is black absolute honed granite.

Added a beverage fridge at one end.

The new bar stools!

My husband and I did all the trim work.
I painted it "oatmeal" by Ralph Lauren in a satin finish and then glazed it.

It suits our house much better than the river rock.

Much, much more counter space now!
what do you think?

Hey Melaine, loving it!
Since I have seen your kitchen first hand, I can tell the difference. Great choice on the bar chairs, those are great.
Hey would you email me what you use for the glaze on the furniture and cabinets? I am needed to paint my master bath cabinets when we do this redo this Summer and think I need a glaze on them after that too.
Thanks, looking good!

Glazing & honed...I love any technique that removes the "shiny new". Rich & rewarding. Thank you for sharing.

Melaine, it's fantastic!
It's beautiful and very well done, but not over done. I love the beverage fridge too. I really need on of those, as water bottles, juice, soda, and beer seem to overtake my fridge.
It's wonderful! The new stools look great, too!

I dig it! I love the paint color and I love that it's called "Oatmeal". Am I the only one out there that bases final paint decisions on the name? :)

I would be stoked to just to have granite, but I agree the black is cuter in your kitchen. Thanks for the inspiration :-)
