I am finished for the day!
Whew!
I have a secret to share with you......
I bet you didn't know Savannah's room had this giant rock wall in it?
It is the backside of our living room fireplace.
At the time we built her bedroom addition I had this great idea to make this a focal point in the room.
Yeah, not such a great idea.
It has looked out of place in there ever since.
Therefore, I have never shown it because I think it is UGLY!
He always said it would be a shame to cover up all that hard work and money.
Well, he must really love her because.......
it's magically gone!
More on that later!
room and took everything off the walls.

Then I used Spackle and filled in all the holes on the walls.

While that was drying I made a bed skirt.
Her bed is unusually high and they don't make a bed skirt with a 24" drop.
So I combined a shabby chic white bed skirt and a tablecloth believe it or not.
We will see if it looks OK once I get it on!
I also covered a bolster pillow but I'm not that happy
with how it turned out so I may not use it.

Next I painted her closet door, her french doors, her shelves, and her bed
all white.
They were previously all pink.

I used Ben Moore dove white as recommended by this great friend.
I trust her so much that I had my husband pick up 2 gallons of the paint before I even knew what shade of white it was.
I love it.
It's not too stark, yet still a white white.

My husband got off early around lunchtime
so I helped him unload his Home Depot load.
He framed up all around it and............
I think I may just move into this room!
This was a huge splurge but having sold
some of her bedroom furniture, I felt it justified it!
My husband HATES to drywall.
But he did it,
and I didn't hear a single swear word.
I left the room for that.
bedroom you don't see the rock wall.
Thanks for all your comments!
I actually pretty much already got rid of everything pink
in her room,
but if there is anything left I'll do another garage sale on my blog!
Tomorrow comes paint, I can't wait to see it up.
Tomorrow comes paint, I can't wait to see it up.
Not so excited about painting the 20' walls, yuck!

Wow... you both sure did it out of LOVE! My husband is a taper... and does sheetrock too. But I can see your husband is doing a great job. Cant wait to see the rest. You two should get a award for being the best parents!
There is something so special about working to please someone you love - you can imagine their reaction all the time you are at it, and it makes the task go so well! Like a dinner of herbs with love in the heart.
It looks splendid already~
Oh, wow, you and your husband have been very busy today. I can't wait to see the results.

I think it is awsome that you are doing a surprise makeover!!! It reminds me of the show "While you were out". I love that show. I can't wait to see the finished project!!!

Wow, you guys are amazing! She is going to e so happy, and what a lucky girl she is.
WHAT COLOR PAINT DID YOU USE FOR THE CLOSET DOOR?
Wow...I cannot believe how much you both got accomplished in one day. We are putting the finishing touches on our younger daughters room (big sister's old room) and then we have to start on big sister's new room (little sister's old room) Wow...that was confusing! Can't wait to see it all done.
I wish you all were my mommy and daddy . . . or just people who were concerned with my house and came around regularly and made things pretty.
She has the very best parents!
I cannot wait to see the finished room. The inspiration room is fabulous!

ps: my girlfriends and i were talking about your home as COTM on our way home from the alameda flea market. we all agree it is just lovely! thought you would like to know you have fans in california!
your living room is our favorite!
Yay! LOVE the rock wall transformation. I understand about your husband not wanting to cover it, but for a GIRLY space it was a little too rustic, right? Can't wait to see the rest!
I love the progress...I can't wait for the next update.
Sweet sweet parents. I am in awe. I couldn't get my husband to move that fast even if I lit a fire under him. You are a luck woman. Can't wait to see it and show my husband. He hates all of your husbands that are handy. lol
Truly amazing how much you did! Look forward to Day 2!!
Sweet room. When she moves out, I'll move in!
This is so amazing, I love what you are doing! You have one blessed lady in your life, what cool parents she has! I was so excited about what you got done, I laid in bed and thought about it...way to long! All day today, I have been wondering what you have accomplished, can't wait to see the post tonight! : )
Holy cow! You two got so much done just in one day, I can't believe it! You must'ave been exhausted! Your daughter is going to be sooo surprised when she gets home. You'll definitely have to take a pic of that Kodak moment! Quite a transformation so far, Melaine. Can hardly wait to see the finished project....!

White Dove totally rocks. I've used it for all my trim work throughout my home. It goes great with any color. And BM paint is just so sweet as it is, rolls on like butter.
Loving the room transformation...lots of work, but it's looking so great.
