Here is a simple potpourri project you can do with your kids.
Not only do these smell great, but they are good looking too!
We are planning on making them this afternoon.
It's snowing outside,
we just finished homemade hot chocolate,
and are all cozy by the fire.
This is the perfect project for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Once the entire orange is covered in cloves, you can gently roll it in ground cinnamon or a pumpkin pie spice mixture for an enhanced scent.

Make sure you choose an orange with a thin skin, otherwise you might have to use a needle to prick the design in first.
Another idea is to "write" a letter with the cloves to spell out Thanksgiving or Christmas words like, "thanks, give, joy" etc.
Place the oranges down the center of your table for an easy display.
Have fun!
xoxo

This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing it!
We used to make these all the time with our kids. I always took a small gauge knitting needle and poked the holes in first so that their fingers didn't get sore. I can almost smell those from here, Melanie. Sometimes those old crafts are the best ones! Hugs- Diana
I love making these. I hope you are more sensible than I was the first time I made them - I made a few and didn't break the skin first and had to force the cloves in - the tips of my fingers were numb for about 3 days!
Enjoy!
I have never done these, maybe I'll do them with my students this year! It was snowing here but quit (darn it!!!)
Enjoy your cozy Sunday!

I love making these...the smell is heavenly!
XO,

We use to do these when I was a kid- I always loved the way they smelled. Good idea about the cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice mixture. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for refreshing my memory of being a kid :)

I tried this a few weeks ago, and my oranges molded... Does this happen to you? Any tips?
These are great and I am sooo jealous that you are sitting by the fire with is snowing outside! It was like 67 here today =(....
I've never seen these before; looks like I'm gonna have to try them
I love these! I'm wondering where I could get cloves in bulk since they are a bit pricey. Any ideas?
Oh I have not made one of these in years. Thanks for the reminder!
What idea to write letters with cloves!! I'll do this job with my daughert. Thank you!

NOTHING SAYS CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS MORESO THAN POMANDERS... LOVE THEM... B
I'm so glad you posted about these today. I made these growing up and forgot about them. They smell wonderful and are fun to place on the table and even a nice touch in the guest bathroom. Your day sounded cozy with the snow and hot chocolate.
Natural way to enhance a room. Thanks for the reminder.
