~decisions, decisions~

I went to Calico Corners today.
All their fabrics are 20% off, which makes things a little more affordable.
I came home with 4 swatches.
I would love some short roman shades in my kitchen.
I don't know if I can swing that big of a project, but I'm going to try.
If they look like crap, I will make pillows out of the fabric!

Out of these 4 swatches I think I narrowed it down to these 2.
What do you think?
I desperately need your opinion!
I think I am leaning towards the blue because the brown and cream one is just too predictable.
{although it's so purdy and it's the cheaper of the two!}
You know me, always livin' on the edge!

So, any thoughts?
xoxo

The best ones always cost more! I really like the blue fabric. :-)

If you figure out how to make roman shades, could you maybe post a tutorial on it? I'd love some for my kitchen but don't know where to start!

Gotta be the blue! I actually have that fabric in my bedroom!

The blue fabric is gorgeous and I usually don't like blue.
The cream and brown fabric is very pretty too. I think it would look really good with your cabinets.
So basically I'm no help at all. :)
Look orward to seeing what you choose!

going back and looking at your kitchen I would choose the brown, while it might be safe I think it will also last longer, I think you would get sick of the blue quicker and when you have gone to all the trouble to make the blind you want something that you can live longest.JMHO

The brown would look gorgeous in your kitchen!
The blue is a beautiful fabric that would give a touch of color but,I would be afraid the color may take away from what you have going on in the kitchen now..which is awesome!

They are both nice but my eye kept going to the brown one. Can't wait to see what you do..

I love the blue -- go with it!

They really both are beautiful - the blue rally is a wonderful shade.

I love the blue fabric! I say always add a little whimsy to every room...so I agree the brwn is predictable and the blue adds a little pop of color and fun!

Mrs. Boyd said...

I love both of them! That blue would be a nice pop of color. Maybe the roman shade in the less expensive of the two and a valance type curtain with the more expensive since it won't take as much fabric. Then you can change them out! :)

GINGER said...

Definitely the blue! You have been wanting some pops of color so here you go. And don't worry, roman shades are not bad at all!

I love the blue! Would love some of it for pillow shams on my own bed! :)

Love them both, brown is simply stunning, the blue is beautiful and playful....but you have so much of that fun apple green in your kitchen I was surprised you weren't using something with that color.

I truly like the blue fabric. It's beautiful!

Blue. For sure.

Do you want your roman shades to work or do you just want the look? If you want a faux roman shade Thrifty Decor Chick has a great tutorial I'm going to try. I'm loving that blue & white fabric, but they're both pretty and you have the magic touch so whatever you do will look fabulous in that kitchen of yours. Thanks for the heads up on the sale at CC! I need to go fabric shopping.

gorgeous!! blue, blue, blue!!! had to laugh too, b/c the number of pillows I've made as a result of botched up sewing projects is too many to count. can't wait to see!

Roman shades aren't difficult at all. If you can sew a straight stitch, you'll have no problem. Do you want them to work or do you want faux shades?
Both fabrics are lovely, but I'm a blue girl. Blue always gets my vote.

I agree with you- go with the blue for something different. Good luck!

I am usually a neutral girl and would choose the brown, but the blue is so pretty. I say blue. Why not? Go for it!

love the brown... I went through a crazy color stage at this time last year and regretted it later. I do have soem pops of a vintagey blue, I think you may tire of it in a window treatment... the brown is so classy and timeless

Meg said...

The brown is cute, but I'm sure several women out there have brown and cream somewhere in their kitchen.

I would go blue to stay on the cutting edge. Cutting.

Karla at Home said...

The brown and cream contrast will show up better in the Roman shades. Roman shades are easy to sew...straight sewing. Sewing on the rings takes a bit of time but easy to do. Perfect measuring and straight stitching will create a perfect shade. I can't wait to see your finished shade:) xoxo Karla

I definitely like the brown one. I think it would look great. I'm not that crazy about the blue one for that project.

which windows in your kitchen are they going on?

not that it matters...I'm just curious......I went to look at pics of your kitchen.....LOVE the blue cause it's different and I'm IN LOVE with Miss Mustard Seed's blue panels in her living room/family room, so that kind of makes me lean toward telling you to go with the blue....

whatever you choose...it'll look Fabulouso.

I prefer the blue also, but from the standpoint of sewing if you are even a little crooked it will show up on the blue. Roman shades are pretty simple, buy the tape, that makes it really easy!

Katie said...

I like both, but I think the brown and cream would look so pretty with your already beautiful kitchen! :)

So hard to choose! Two of my favorite colors...French blue and brown...but the brown is such a great neutral...will go with everything, Could
you make tea towels for your oven out of the blue?

Melanie, I think its the brown one for you, going by your home. The blue is indeed beautiful but its the brown. And you gotta trust this one :)

I LOVE the linen colored one you didn't choose. I wish I could tolerate print longer than 7 mos. and not tire of it :( (learned the hard way) All of them are lovely choices though.

I love the blue too...that seems to be the trend in comments. I have roman shades in my living room and we love them...so much better than blinds or anything else we have tried. I don't have them posted anywhere...but that gave me the idea to post about them soon! Can't wait to see what you choose!

I love the blue one. As soon as I saw the picture - before I even read anything, I thought - I love that fabric!

Stephenie from Decorating Addiction said...

I'm voting for the blue! Can't wait to see which one you choose and how they look!

Heather said...

Both of those are beautiful fabric however I think the brown would go the best in your kitchen.

What I do when I cant decide is leave what ever item Im stuck on up for two weeks, usually by week end I know which one wouldn't fit.

GOOD LUCK!!

PS roman shades are easier than they look to make.

Love the brown and cream!!!!! Classic!

Jan Jessup said...

Dear Melaine, let me suggest that you ignore all the votes for this fabric or that one--and buy the one YOU love the best! Go back to Calico Corners and borrow the fabrics on approval (there's no cost to do this). Take them home overnight and look at them by your window in the kitchen.

Which one speaks to you the most? Consider also that some of the pattern will be lost in the folds of a Roman shade. Fan-fold the samples to see how this will look. There won't be that much difference in cost since Roman shades require very little yardage compared to floor-length draperies. Let the fabrics tell you which one belongs in your home. Happy decorating!

Cindy @ Shanty Insanity said...

Hi Melaine-
Definitely the blue...love that fabric and it really complements the style of your home while adding the color you have been wanting to add. :o)

Love the blue, still neutral but with more life to it than the brown. The romans don't have to be complicated, they don't even have to work. You can just gather the little rings on the back and leave them that way, no pulleys, no strings. All the impact with non of the fuss.

I love the cream and brown...goes w/any other color you choose to add to the room (think holidays)....best of luck! Can't wait to see what you choose!

Brown for me....goes well with everything. I would add color somewhere else.

Sadie said...

I also went back and looked at your kitchen pictures. First I must say I love blue. However, I really think the brown and cream fabric would look best with your decor. My recommendation: go with the brown and cream and add an unexpected touch with a trim that brings in another color-you could even do blue (I love blue, brown and cream!). If you get tired of the trim you can easily change it out. They have some absolutely GORGEOUS trims out there that would look great on the bottom of Roman shades. Can't wait to see what you do!!!
