If your wood floors have seen better days, why not dress them up with a little paint?
or for a more casual look, simply paint them white.

You can turn inexpensive pine or even plywood into something really show stopping.

I am loving pattern right now, lots and lots of it!

You can also use 2 different colors of stain to create a checkerboard.

"girly"
to me!
Wouldn't it be great in a powder room?

Isn't this gorgeous?
Very subtle, looks like it's been there for years!

I love the look of the checkerboard! So classic! Thanks for the great images.
That last one is so pretty. I painted large red and cream diamonds in my kitchen. Very cheerful to come down to in the morning:)

I love painted floors and wish I had a spot to try it...maybe the pantry!
Wow the last image is amazing!! LOVE those floors. My sister in law painted her kitchen floors herself about 5 years ago and they look better with age!;) thanks for the inspiration~ Rachel

Lovin those painted floors...the last one is my favorite too!
This summer we are building a little cottage at our camp. I just think that I might have to try one of these on the floors.
Love the floors! Great inspiration...have a great day!
ah, painted wood floors are the best! But I'm too afraid to do it to brand-spankin' new ones! :)
I've alway been in love with reclaimed and painted floors. Couldn't affor the real deal so we built our own wood floors out of plywood and painted them black. We LOVE them! http://therigtrups.blogspot.com/2009/09/photo-update-of-house.html
I love painted floors and I love it even more when I come across a blog post that has several pictures of something that I like in one place! Love it!
I painted my porch floors with a checkerboard. Not for the math challenged :-)
Love the room with the twin beds - wonderful floors and bedding
I love all these floors, amazing! Thanks for sharing!
We painted our 100 year old pine subfloor on the 2nd floor. It had been painted before. I couldn't convince hubby to go with a light color, so the hallway and master are dark brown, but my son's room has a barn red floor and I ADORE IT! We are finishing the 3rd bedroom right now and we'll go with a lighter color in there, because the dark shows all the dust!
I love the white-painted pine and the last one, too. I think it's often overlooked how much fun you can have with flooring.
In a heart beat if only I could talk my husband into it!
Great post of a great idea! Love it!
I love everything in that last photo. Congrats on being chosen best blog in the mag. Fiona
hooray, your writings on theater and writing much missed!
Checkboard pattern is very common for me -- I've seen houses in Tampa with that pattern, but I still love it! The chevron flooring pattern is something new for me, though. It'd be better to laminate 'em for protection from dust, dirt and sometimes scratches. I wish I have one of those!
What a nice design, I like the style!
