~today I am loving~

Lately I have felt like I am always running and have yet to catch my breath.
~Flea market Saturday {hope you are coming}
~Getting the house prepped for the painters
~Painting my neighbors kitchen cabinets {stop me before I volunteer again!}
~back to school shopping
~making time for the kids in the midst of all this
{last night we had a tadpole die, and it was very traumatic!}
~keeping my space at ruffles and rust stocked
~keeping up on house cleaning, last night Cody told me I need to do the laundry because he has worn the same shorts 2 days in a row :)
~custom orders
and the list goes on
and
on
and
on
and
on.
You get the picture.
Not that I am complaining.
Things are good, just busy.
The one thing that has been a battle is this house stain/paint thing.
We picked a color, sort of a darker brown stain, and decided to go with off white trim instead of white.
The painters have been here 4 days and just finished the stain.
Chris and I hate it.
It's nothing like what we thought.
It's more like a paint.
 You can't see the wood grain through it and it's also shiny in spots.
Not good.
The painter talked us into this certain stain and we just aren't happy.
If it was a wall in the house we could live with it.
But this is our house, our garage, and 2 out buildings.
Yikes.
The painters are coming again this morning to do the trim, but looks like we will be asking them to strip the stain instead.
This should be a fun conversation.
Anyway, after all the chaos of the week, I sat down last night to browse my favorite blogs.
It always makes me happy to see pretty pictures of homes, and friends.
This photo above is from the happy home blog.
Love the black and white stripes and the styling with the pictures.
I want to do this somewhere.
However, painting walls is no where in my near future, as I have my neighbors kitchen to finish up and my homes exterior to deal with.
Wish me luck, and thanks for letting my vent my friends!
xoxo

Hope your house gets fixed. Can understand how frustrating it is when something turns out completely off from what you wanted.

Melaine...talk about a full plate!
Whew! I am so sorry to hear about the stain on your house. I think some of the pro painters out there know less about the proper paint and paint techniques than we do. It is so frustrating when they cannot see a client's vision. What a waste of perfect PacNWest painting weather.

I WISH that I could be there Saturday. We're painting the kitchen and starting to install hardwood floors. As I stated in a previous comment, We'll be up this fall. I could very well be bringing and Expedition full of shoppers!

I wish you complete success with all that you encounter for the rest of the week.

A couple of summers ago we had the brick painted on the outside of our house. After it was painted, I HATED the color....so it had to be re-painted, now I love it! Hubby wasn't happy about the extra dough spent but he would have been even more unhappy about hearing me whine for years to come!! It will be worth the change in the end, if you don't like it now, you'll never like it.

Bummer about the stain - and it makes the busy schedule you're on all the more stressful....As painful (and painfully expensive!) as it may be, I agree - if it bothers you now, you're likely not going to "learn to love it." And for an investment that sizeable - and the length of time you'll have to live with it, you might as well bite the bullet and get it done right....Good luck Sweetie - not fun!! Bluh! I'm so sorry that your stain didn't turn out. This kind of stuff happens to all of us. I think that's why I'm addicted to "Sarah's House," because she actually experiences the renovating bummers that the rest of us do and she doesn't flip out (like I often want to!) When she ordered new custom windows and discovered after they were completed that they were the wrong style, I sooo felt for her. She said, "Quite frankly, I'm heartbroken. It is a huge amount of money down the drain, but they have to be reordered." In the long run, if you don't like the stain, you'll be glad you had it re-done. Hang in there!

I am in the same boat you are..my house is cedar also and I want to go lighter brown. I have never stripping the stain off.. are they using any kind of stripper in the pressure washer or just water? I would love to know the stain color you are going with..My windows are also white but my porch posts are stained and I am thinking of painting them white..whew I feel your pain. :)
