~photo wall & a diy family definition wall~

I've been messing around with some of my chunky frames, hanging them in different spots in my home.
I always think they make a great impact when placed together, like done here.

So, I gathered some up, and went to town putting holes in my walls!
I chose the wall leading downstairs.
It has always been blank, and I've wanted to dress it up for quite some time.

There was no rhyme or reason to where I hung them.
I simply held them up, thought, OK, and screwed a screw in!
At the bottom of these stairs is the "family" wall I hand painted.
I did this years ago and posted about it way back when on hgtv.
You can see it here.
I am not the best at tutorials but the method I used is similar to this.
Instead of graphite paper though, I just scribbled pencil all over the back, works the same, is less expensive, and a lot less messy.
If you'd like to do this in your home, just copy and paste the following into a word document.
Then take to your local copy center {I like Kinko's}
and enlarge to the desired size using their over sized copier.
This shouldn't cost more than around $8 max.
Using the method above, transfer the image onto your wall, then fill in with the paint of your choice.

What a great wall you painted. I too am doing family pictures framed coming down/going up our stairway. I'm doing ours in black frames with white mats. Funny you mentioned ripping up the carpet from your stairs. My girls did that one night after we went to bed. I guess I have mentioned it enough that one night when they were both home it got done. Now I need to get them painted. I am doing the dark stair steps and white risers. Lots of carpet nail holes to fill and sand first. It will be awhile before I can do a post about that project. Have a delightful day!

Do you use screws always to hang your pictures? And, does your husband care that you are constantly rehanging? Do you just putty over old holes? The reason I ask is I am hesitant to hang anything for fear of putting too many holes. Probably because my husband is always worried about having to fix the old holes with patches.

Hope you answer! :-)

Hi Momentum! Yep, if what I am hanging is light enough, I just use screws. If it's heavy, I will anchor it in. I am constantly patching holes but it's no biggie to me. I keep a can of spackle and a spackle knife on hand as well as touch up paint. Makes the job really easy! Melaine

Hi Melaine!

Oh my gosh.....the wall of frames looks perfect! And your DIY was pretty easy to follow too....but even more amazing is how perfect your lettering looks. You wouldn't even know you hand painted that!

p.s. I've coveted that staircase for a while myself....someday I say....someday!

What a beautiful creation, your family wall!

Please, would you mind elaborating on your method that you mentioned, specifically the part about "scribbling with pencil"? A bit confused. The rest of the directions I get, just that part I'm unsure of.

THANKS A BUNCH. You are incredibly talented. :)
