~what's your number?~

So, I have these 2 chairs from Ikea in my dining room.
Yesterday I decided they needed a little something
extra on them.

Here they are before:

I decided I wanted to put a number on each one, so here is what I did.
In a word document I created 2 numbers, 3 and 7 in the Edwardian Script font, size 650, and printed them out.

Then I carefully cut each number out and taped it to the chair using double stick tape.

Next, I traced around each number with pencil.

Then using black fabric paint and a fine tip brush, I filled each number in!

In a day or so I am going to wash them and hope that the black fades a bit.
What do you think?

Love them. I am actually planning to purchase two of those chairs and have the slipcover monogrammed.

Love it!!! I have been considering monograms or numbers for my chair backs too. I like the technique you used, I may just give it a try. Please follow up on the post washing outcome...The fade factor will be an interesting effect! Thanks MBT

Hmmm... Just had a thought, perhaps contact paper could be used for the template, eliminating the double stick tape step... Just saying... Thanks MBT for your inspirational blog and sharing your creative views!!!

I love that , I did that a few years ago on our dinning chairs I did our birthdates , it looks lovely. I just got those chairs for my dinning room and my hubby gave me the slips for Christmas they are still in the pkg as my dining room is a disaster and needs flooring and built-ins still.

I love the numbers an d am inspired to do something similar in paint on wood.. maybe I will do initials. I am also admiring your zebra skin and wondered if it is real. if printed, where did you find such a good looking one? when I look online I only see very obviously printed ones. enjoy the blog. thanks.

I think it's a big improvement over the plain slipcover. I do have to ask why you chose 3 and 7. General curiosity. They turned out great.

The chairs look much better. The numbers would be good on the back too ... Even written as a word maybe.

I think they look much better and more interesting now. Beautiful table! Yes that is the question I hope the paint will stay after washing. Why 3 and 7? Is there any reason? Happy New Year!

Love them! Okay, gotta know the significance of the numbers :)

I love that idea!!
Any reason why you chose the front instead of the back?

I think they look great!! What if you sanded the paint a little bit to lighten it? I can't remember if you have to heat set the paint to keep it from bleeding...keep us posted!!
