I've been eyeing some pretty cool brushstroke lamps lately, but, oh, the prices are so high!
So I set out to find a couple of double gourd lamps to make my own.
I went to Lamps Plus, Target, World Market, Lowes, Home Depot, and Fred Meyer.
Not one of those places had off white double gourd lamps and I was pretty set on that shape.
After hours of searching, I went into the Goodwill and spied a pair of lamps marked $7.99 each.
They were off white, a different shape, but one that I thought would work.
So I took them up to the register only to find out that they were half off.
2 lamps for $8, I was soooo happy!
Then I went over to Michaels and got this paint in red and coral because they didn't have the exact color I was going for.
You can get it on Amazon here too.
I mixed the two colors and added a bit of black latex to tone it down.
Once I had the color I wanted, it was time to paint!
I used a 1 1/2" brush and just sorta went for it.
There was really no rhyme or reason.
The first brush stroke I did, there wasn't enough paint on the brush and it looked horrible.
Have wet paper towels handy to wipe away any mistakes like this.
From then on, I loaded up my brush a lot.
I've got one in my kitchen and one in my dining room and I absolutely love them!
And because I love before and afters…….
Also, just a reminder this is day two of the Holiday Home Tours!
