~our dining room progression over 7 years~

We added onto our home in 2009 with this dining room addition.

I was just looking through photos and am laughing at all the changes it has been through in
those short 7 years.

It started out with faux suede walls in 2009 and a lack of personality.
Check out my great photography skills too.
I made the There's no place like home sign and painted our table black.
The chairs have since been sold.
Those sconces were for decoration only as we don't have electrical outlets in the walls there.

Lots of lessons learned, but it did function pretty well for our little family.

Fast forward to 2012 and the addition of some shelving which I made by ripping an old door in half on a table saw.

I had fun decorating these shelves.
I changed out the big sign and made this small Pottery Barn knockoff family one.
I also stripped all the black paint off the table and brought it down to a more natural wood look.

There's those sconces that I said were non functioning.
I must have converted them to plug in at this point, funny how I don't remember.
I also added this great big buffet that I found on craigslist and turned the table going a different direction.

Shortly after living with that for a while, I stumbled across this great big hutch and fell in love, hauled it home and called it good.
I added a grayish stain to the table and put it back the other direction, much better.
I sold the old chairs and bought new ones from Restoration Hardware, and swapped out the sconces for vintage botanicals.
I loved this look.

In 2012 our dining room was also featured in Better Homes And Gardens Christmas Ideas magazine.
There I am with our faithful lab Hunter who has since gone to doggy heaven.

Sometime in 2014 our dining room was featured in Cottages And Bungalows Magazine but for the life of me I cannot find those photos!

But then, my friend was selling her black hutch that was on the cover of Country Living magazine, so out went this one, and in came the new one.

And this is how our dining room looks now.

I went with a little more of an industrial feel with this DIY bar cart.

And once again got new {old} chairs.

I hate to admit it, but I am ready for some new chairs!
And that zebra rug is now gone because it was so old and tattered it split and cracked when you picked it up or moved a chair leg.

I'd love another one to replace it, I loved it.

The one thing that has always remained the same in this room is the table!
Even though it has seen many different paints and stains, it has continued to be a favorite thing of ours.

I am constantly changing things up as my tastes change and evolve.
Sometimes I drive my family crazy but the creative side of me just can't help it.

I know I am not alone, please tell me I'm not!

If this was your room, what would you change up, leave, or add?

Hi Melaine! Just struck me I have seen every one of these transformations which means I've been a follower for 7yrs?! Where did that time go?! It all started when I found you on rate my space and my jaw litterally dropped at your entire home. I always felt defeated looking through magazines that our home wasn't what I truly wanted because our budget didn't allow. We were a young married couple with 3 small children and it just didn't seem possible. After finding your blog(I didn't even know blogs existed) for the first time I realized I could start making things to get the look I wanted. And even though our budget allows for it today I still use your thrifty ideas. Anyways, I have never commented but I wanted to thank you for all that you share bc you and your home have been and continue to be an inspiration to me!

I'm with Shawnee above, I found you on RMS and been a follower of your blog ever since! I think my favorite dining room re-do is the one with the gray hutch but of course, I love all you do!

Looking forward to seeing what you do next in the dining room.

I enjoy your posts and visiting your home through your posts. If this was my home I would be delighted, as it is, though I may have a chandelier above my table and take advantage of those amazing high ceilings. But your taste is perfect! And I still love your table as well. Thanks for sharing with us.

I love your blog and have seen all the transformations! I laughed at you driving your family crazy, I do the same! Thank goodness I only act on a third of the transformations that go on in my mind;). I love the layered rug look in your dining room. Try a cow hide. Also, a different version of your bar cart could make it feel different without spending too much. I know whatever you come up with next we will all love! Xoxo Belinda in Ma

Such a fun post. I think I found you off Rate My Space also. I had forgotten all about RMS. Does it even exist anymore? I remember the first time I looked at your blog I just absolutely fell in love. I remember searching for your paint color in the living room and dying over my personal favorite dining room pictures with the white buffet and shelves. I also love to see the changes you make to your living room. The wall, the coffee table, the pillows. I love it all. Thanks for blogging and inspiring us.
