~our modern farmhouse family room~

Welcome back to part 2 of our home tour, our family/living room.
This tour is put on by Kristen at Ella Claire Inspired as well as Country Living.
This is one of my most favorite rooms in our home, and definitely one that is used the most.

When we bought our house back in 1998, the walls had dark cedar paneling. A few years after moving in I painted them and it really brightened things up and made a huge difference.

We took out the sliders and added french doors, hung a chandelier, as well as re-rocked the fireplace surround.

I switched out our lamps for fall to these black terra-cotta beauties.
I am a neutral girl at heart but I like to mix it up by adding a lot of texture and some creams and browns to my black and white palette.

Our sectional is from Pottery Barn, and we love it.
Whenever it is looking a little dingy, I simply take off the covers and throw them in the wash, so easy.

The laundry cart in the corner holds all of our blankets for snuggling up by the fire.

I almost always have fresh flowers on the coffee table, but mostly just greens this time of year. I love the informal and wild look of eucalyptus. The marble box can be found here.

Layering rugs is another thing I like to do.
Under the coffee table I have a jute rug topped with a calf skin area rug.

The gold lamp is fairly new as well, found here.
We keep all of our tv components in the glass front cabinet so we don't have to open and close it every time we need to use the remote.

Our coffee table is a family heirloom, but I found a similar one here if you like the look.

The console table was a DIY project. Click here to see how it was put together.

More eucalyptus in a thrifted vase with some old books in a wire basket.
This chair has been claimed by one of our yellow labs, Oakley.
If you sit in it, you are sure to be covered in dog hair when you get up.

Decorating books add a bit of color to the white walls.
Here are some of my favorite ones with colorful bindings:

Decorate
Creating A Home
Design Sponge At Home
&
Dream Decor

The chandelier
 {which is on sale!}
making a small appearance in the photo above can be found here.

The shutters are vintage as well as the metal container holding magazines on the coffee table.

Another place I like adding bits of color is in vintage rugs.
All the vintage rugs in my house are from here.
I feel like once you find a trusted seller of vintage rugs, or any item for that matter, you should stick with them! I have never been disappointed with any of their products.

The pillows on the couch are from a variety of stores.
Some are Ikea, and TJ Maxx.
I also have vintage grain sack beauties from here.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tour our family room, it truly means a lot.

As many times as I've seen and admired your family room, I've never noticed it faces french doors! How awesome that you can just open them right to the outdoors! Love the new black lamps-- they really add some beautiful moodiness to the room!
