~what color means to me in our home~

When you think about spring in terms of colors, what colors pop into your mind?
Living in Seattle, our springs are pretty rainy and still cloudy.
But then the skies start to clear up and turn the most gorgeous shades of grey blue.
As you know I am constantly "playing house" and changing things up, moving things around, and adding in new colors.
I do love my neutrals though. There is something that is just so calm and soothing about creams, whites, and greys, grounded by a little black.

I got the urge last week to paint something so I got out a can of this paint that I had never used before.
I painted this thrift store chair and instantly fell in love.
I then wanted to paint everything.
I am literally obsessing over this color!

After painting the chair, I knew I had to paint something else so I painted my gold lamp.

Then I painted the outside of a wood tray.
I just couldn't stop. I am still looking around for things to paint this color.
It has a slightly blue hue to it.
It reminds me of a Seattle spring sky.

But then I started craving that black. It always seemed to keep things from looking to pristine or girly to me. I don't think I could live without black, ha ha.
But this time, I decided to try dark grey, graphite.
Close to black but not too matchy matchy.
It also has a blue tint to it, in a deeper richer way, like the night sky.
The two colors work beautifully together.

Thank goodness I held onto these stools. I brought them back in and painted them,  and added black wax, mixed with clear wax because I wanted dark, but not jet black.

I feel like our home got a total spring refresh just by painting a couple pieces of furniture.
And in totally unrelated news, I just ordered this runner after seeing it in this beautiful kitchen. Cannot wait for it to arrive.

There's the coffee station from yesterdays post.

Please take a minute to see how my friends below are incorporating color into their homes this spring!

The ultimate combination of neutrals is white, cream, gray, and black. And when you add a splash of color, is REALLY pops.

We are locals Melanie:) I smiled when you said gray like the Seattle sky. I always say the sun is THERE .. it's just behind the clouds! We've lived here for almost 20 years and I have grown to love the weather. That said, I am anxious for the mud to dry up and to feel some warm sunshine!! Paint is so fun and I love the way you just go for it! You can't go wrong with neutrals. We have a black (graphite) Ilve range and painted our island black amidst all white cabinets. I like the contrast of your colors!
