~DIY mud cloth charger plates~ {thrifty Thursday}

Hooray for thrifty Thursday!
I am going to try my hardest to have a fun thrifty project for you on as many Thursdays as I can.
I LOVE today's project, like LOVE.

I don't know how many times I am at the thrift store and see gold or silver charger plates for 99 cents.
Almost every darn time.
So while I didn't need gold charger plates, I did want some fun trendy mud cloth inspired charger plates, so here is what I came up with!

And here is the before:

This project was really simple actually even though it may look complicated.

SPRAY PAINT WITH BASE COLOR

I painted half of them black and the other half cream.
Use light coats to avoid dripping and coat several times, allowing to dry between coats.
I used a spray paint with a primer built in, like this one.

FIND MUD CLOTH DESIGNS AND PRINT OUT TO HAVE AS A REFERENCE

You can google different designs to print out.

USE PAINTERS TAPE OR FREEHAND

If you are going to use painters tape, make sure to let the base coat dry a minimum of overnight, or it will peel off your paint when you go to remove the tape.
I taped off the first charger I did, and then found it was faster and easier just to freehand on the design.

PAINT YOUR PATTERN

This is easy, I promise.
The beauty of these is that they don't have to be perfect to look good.
I used off white paint on my black charger plates, and black paint on my cream charger plates.
Use your print outs as a guide, have fun with it, don't be scared!

Here are a few different combinations I did.

When you are all finished and they are completely dry, spray with a matte sealer to prevent chipping.
Do not wash these, just wipe clean with a paper towel and warm water and I am sure you've already guessed, but these are not food safe.

Have fun with it and be sure to share your finished products on Instagram and tag My Sweet Savannah, I'd love to see!

xoxo
