how to make non toxic cleaners for your home

If you want your house to not only smell great and clean, but also be super clean, read on.

I made these cleaners about a month ago. I wanted to be sure they did the job, held up ok, and smelled amazing, before sharing with you all.

I am happy to say that I love them, and I think you will too.

These cleaners are made for every surface in your home, and will leave everything sparkling.

Most importantly, these cleaners are non toxic and will not fill your home and surfaces with junk you have to worry about exposing your family too.

I made these for a few reasons.

Number one, I really wanted a kitchen counter cleaner that was non toxic. My husband loves to make his sandwiches for lunch directly on the counter, and I couldn't fathom all the toxins getting into the bread from the very thing I used to clean the surface with.

Enter 2 important ingredients: Castile soap and pure essential oils. Those two things will change your cleaning routine forever.

Castile soap is a natural vegetable based product made up primarily of coconut oil and olive oil.

I found this great guide for the recipes over at Clean Mama.

I prefer the peppermint Castile soap which can be found here. It is super concentrated, a little goes a long way.

If you are going to make these cleaners, I recommend starting with this variety pack and mixing in essential oils that will go nicely with the different scents.

There is nothing like a citrus scent for the kitchen, tea tree for the bathrooms, and lavender for bedrooms.

You can use this printable as a guide. Experiment with different essential oil combinations.

I mixed all mine up in these bottles.

I started with about 6, and these cleaners will last probably a year.
I keep everything on the back of my laundry room door in this wire door rack.

Label them to know which is which. You can print labels onto regular paper and use packing tape to adhere. Or, you can use sticker paper for your labels, or even just write it on the bottom of the bottle with a sharpie for a really clean look.

Besides the bottles and Castile soap, you will also need your essential oils.
I also made cleaners with Thieves because I am obsessed with the smell of it {think fall and Christmas wrapped in one}

You will now have more than enough oils to diffuse, add to your cleaning solutions, apply topically, or internally. Click here to read about all the ways to use essential oils. They can also help you sleep, help clear up acne,  even help with clearing up a bad mood.

These cleaners have changed the way I take care of our home and family. No more toxins, no more messy bottles, no more searching for cleaners for every space in the house. I love the function and the look of our homemade cleaners so much, and encourage you to try making your own.
