our master bedroom makeover

If you have been following along for a while now, you know that I have been giving our master bedroom a bit of a makeover.

We desperately needed new furniture.

I loved our nightstands but they were old and the drawers weren't working very well. I was also tiring of the chippy paint look.

We also needed a larger dresser for all our clothes. Our master closet, while it is a walk in, isn't that huge, so a bigger dresser was a necessity.

Our old bed-while I liked the headboard, I wanted a complete bed. It was a great bed but never felt like grown up furniture if you know what I mean.

I was going to get another upholstered bed, but a friend suggested to me that I do wood since we have so much carpeting in our room {my husband won that argument}

So I went with this bed and I have to say, I love it and it is so affordable.
The headboard is a little massive, still trying to figure out what to do there to make it look less so.

I framed out the bed with family photos. I hung them on either side of the bed as well as over the headboard. I feel like this ties it all together.

I also added a matching gallery wall near the entrance to our bedroom.

The frames are from a company called Framed And Matted. I chose the addison style frame with weighted bottom oversized white mats. I love how they pop against the dark walls.

Going with the oversized look, we went with these nightstands.

The lamps can be found here and they are huge and I love them. The texture and the color is perfect.

I decided to layer on a lighter rug to lighten up the space a bit too. This light grey rug from Solo rugs is the perfect thing to step onto every morning.

I also upgraded our chandelier to a larger piece with a color that tied in better.

I chose the Lucca chandelier and I think it is simple yet it produces a lot of light and is really beautiful.

Across from the bed is our tv. We previously had a tv stand under it, but because we needed more storage, we went with a ginormous dresser from RH. It is huge and it holds all the things.

I kept the top pretty simple with a few favorite books-

The marble lamp I repurposed from another room in our home.

For a pop of color I added this fern in my new favorite vase. I had been wanting this vase for a while now, and I have to say, I am so happy I got it! You can find it here in 2 colors if you want one for yourself!

To add a layer of cozy to the bed, I got these shams in the largest size {euro} and this fun blanket.

Both are so soft and cozy.

Our previous dresser used to be where the hanging mirror is. Since we got a larger dresser, we didn't need that one anymore. Hanging the mirror here makes the room feel even larger.

So what do you think? This room is super hard to photograph with it's dark walls. Not too mention it has been so dark and grey out lately.

I feel like I still need to tweak a few things. Maybe add some subtle color with pillows on the bed? I'd love to hear your thoughts. What would you add or take away?

xoxo, Melaine
