how to decorate a store bought cake for Halloween

Today I am going to show you a fun hack.

Your friends will think you are such a creative baker with this cake. But little will they know that it is a store bought cake!

First you'll need to go to the grocery store and find a cake. I like to go to Walmart because they always have a good selection and price point.

What the store has in their bakery at the time might dictate what you will put on your cake.

For example, if my option was only chocolate, I might have put white spiders on it and white googley eyes, something contrasting.

But for my "recipe" I found 2 little coconut cakes that I stacked on top of one another.

Hit the candy aisle and the Halloween aisle and look for items that might be suitable for your cake.

I chose a giant junior mint, some white candy melts, powdered donut holes, and dark chocolate nonpareils.

You can get really creative with your candy, in the colors, shapes, and sizes. You could even stick cookies into the cake!

To make it look like one tall cake I simply ran a knife over the frosting between the two, then added more coconut.

I've had these skulls for a while now and I placed one right on top to the side.

Dig through your Halloween stash and pull out anything else that might work. Spiders work great because they are lightweight and stick easily to the frosting.

After placing your cake on your cake stand, sprinkle candy randomly all over. Place some on the cake stand itself.
Tuck some into the sides of your cake and some sticking out from the top. The more the merrier.

I hope you have fun decorating a Halloween cake for yourself!
