I saw some faux leather trees in the CB2 catalog and instantly fell in love.
But then I saw the price tag and decided to make my own.
I got all the supplies to make mine at Walmart.
They had a great selection of faux leather, and they had the styrofoam cones.
Start by making a template out of wrapping paper. This way if it doesn't fit, you won't have wasted your material.
Dry fit it and if needed, as I did, make any adjustments. It is better too have it to big then too small.
Using your template, trace the pattern onto the backside of your fabric.
When you get to the end, make a final bead of hot glue to finish it off.
Trim any access material from the bottom so that it sits straight.
That is it!
Display in a grouping on a shelf, mantle, or cabinet.
In the end, each one was well under $5 a piece to make as opposed to $60-$80.
Not only that, but they were so simple to make!
I am sure you could do some cool faux fur or boucle fabric, or even felt.
And you could even make the cones out of poster board if you didn't want to spend the money on the styrofoam cones.
