homemade hot chocolate with whipped cream

Nothing beats homemade whipped cream or homemade hot chocolate.

But serve them up in cute Santa mugs and you've got an impressive holiday drink for anyone!

Use candy canes as stir sticks, or top with mini marshmallows.

Growing up, my mom never bought canned whip cream. She always made her own, and nothing beats it in my opinion.

She also always made her own hot cocoa and I have carried on her tradition of both.

I have been making this homemade hot chocolate with whipped cream recipe since my kids were small.

It's so good on a chilly winter day.

Adults can add a shot of fireball to add a little cinnamon kick to it.  It is pretty good if you ask me!

Here is my moms recipe for the best homemade hot chocolate with whipped cream!

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, & water over medium heat.
  2. Cook, stirring constantly until smooth and bring to a simmer.
  3. Reduce heat, and stir in the milk, do not boil.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour into mugs and serve immediately.

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract

  1.  Add heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to a metal mixing bowl.
  2. Using an electric mixer², beat ingredients on low speed, gradually increasing speed to high, and beat until stiff peaks form. Don't over-beat, but don't stop beating until cream has reached a thick, billowy consistency.
  3. Keep unused whipped cream refrigerated in an airtight container.
